Bright & Cheery Door Decor

05/07/14, by Megan Steenson

This modern door decor looks great no matter which side you view it from. Inside, the piece shows off a bright paint color and fun faux flowers. Outside, it features house numbers and is painted to match the door. The best part is you only need a few supplies and it's completely customizable to your door — and style!

Floral Door Décor

To get started, we painted one side of a 1/4"-thick piece of hardboard a bright color; the other side is white to match our door. We decided to give the project a bit of an industrial look by enhancing it with a piece of metal mesh. To secure the metal mesh, we drilled holes through the hardboard and added a bolt, two washers (one on each side), and a nut (photo 1). Then for a fun accent, we secured a few faux flowers to the mesh with hot-melt glue (photo 2). The daisies, along with the bright green paint we chose, make a cheerful statement.

Door Decor Option

Of course, since we were using a glass-pane door, we needed the backside of the decor to look good from outside, too. We attached a set of stylish house numbers with hot-melt glue — positioning them to be centered within the window panes (photo 3).

When you've finished embellishing your project, you're ready to hang it on your door. We simply applied double-sided foam tape from the hardware store to the door muntins and then pressed the hardboard in place.

Supplies:

  • 1/4" hardboard
  • 1/4 x 3/4" hex head bolts
  • 1/4" flat washers
  • 1/4" nuts
  • 1/2" wire mesh
  • Hot-melt glue
  • Faux flowers
  • Metal house numbers
  • Double-faced foam tape
