We turned a large vintage suitcase into a wall-mounted cabinet. The case adds unique storage for towels and other necessities in a bathroom.
Salvage Store Find. When we were searching for a suitcase for this project, we wanted to find one with fabric lining that was still in good shape. We also liked that this case had a pouch on the lid, which we reused in the makeover.
Since the pouch was oriented the wrong way for our cabinet, we removed it and cut its cardboard backer to fit sideways. Then we folded over the excess fabric and applied hot glue.
Next, we pressed the pouch back in place. Turning the pouch sideways left the suitcase with an unfinished portion inside the lid. We solved this by covering a cardboard panel with cork, and then gluing that to the unfinished portion.
The newly transformed suitcase cabinet makes a handy place to keep bath towels near a sink. You can hang just one, or create multiple cabinets for even more whimsical storage.
