Family photos and artwork are very personal, so why settle for displaying them in ordinary frames? Try making a frame from something unusual, such as a wooden window sash.
Select a Sash. Finding a window sash should be easy. You can get one at a salvage store or use a new wood barn sash like we did.
We started by painting a bare wood window sash. Then we gave it a distressed look by sanding it in random areas. We also added scrapes and scratches with a razor blade.
Next, we added hangers to the back of the sash. You could also change up the look by mounting decorative hooks to the top edge.
We stuck clear acrylic frames to the panes to hold photos. These can be attached with glue or double-faced carpet tape. Then just add your art.
Instead of hanging our window sash on nails, we tied a piece of ribbon to the hangers. Then we attached a cabinet knob to the wall and used it to hang the piece. Use your imagination to come up with other clever customization ideas.
