This now-stylish table was originally destined for the dumpster, but we knew it had potential. With a couple of simple projects, we made it into a piece that will be used for years to come.
Simple Transformation. We started by refreshing the piece’s finish with paint. Then we added a faux leather top to turn it into an attractive game table.
The easiest way to refresh the table was to give it a new coat of paint. We applied a primer coat first, and then sprayed on a dark brown base coat. Then we protected the whole thing with satin clear coat.
Next, we sanded the top of the table. We rolled contact cement onto the table and on the underside of a piece of faux leather.
We covered the table with Kraft paper. (Cardboard would also work for this step.) Then we set down the faux leather material, and carefully pulled the paper out.
To finish the faux leather top, we smoothed it with a tool called a J-roller. We trimmed off the excess material with a utility blade.
Start to finish, the table makeover took just a couple of hours. Now it’s a stylish spot for the family to gather.
