Keeping a family’s many electronic gadgets charged and functioning is a challenge of modern life. This charging station hides them away in a bread box, so you don’t have to deal with a tangle of cords.
Inside the Box. We picked a metal bread box in red to add a pop of color in this kitchen. It just took a few steps to turn it into a charging station.
First, we cut a hole for a charging strip cord. We marked the hole and covered it with masking tape. Then we used a rotary tool with a cutting disc to cut through the metal.
The metal edges of the hole were sharp, so we covered them with short lengths of 3/16” vacuum hose. We just slit the hose lengthwise to create an open side.
We fastened the power strip to the bottom of the breadbox to keep it from moving around. You can do this with double-faced tape or adhesive mounting strips.
Once the previous steps were complete, we were ready to plug in our charging strip and add chargers. The project gives us a great way to hide cord clutter.
