Craft, office, and school supplies often overtake desks and counters, but we have the perfect organization solution: Mason jars. The jars still take up space, though, so we designed an attractive and simple-to-make shelf for them.
Simple Supplies. The shelf is easy to build from a few common materials: a 1x6 board, some embossed molding, and a pair of wooden brackets.
The molding “wraps” around the front and sides of the 1x6. To match the pattern on the connecting pieces of molding, we overlapped a piece that had already been miter-cut with another section of molding. Then we marked the place where the patterns lined up.
We used a miter saw to “sneak up” on each of the cuts. This gave the pattern in the molding a seamless look at the corners. We also ripped the 1x6 board to 5” wide, and cut it to our desired length.
We used wood glue and finish nails to attach the molding to the board. Then we glued brackets to the bottom, and painted the whole shelf. The brackets have keyhole slots on the back, so we used those to hang the project when it was complete.
