This dresser (before photo, left) was in good shape, but it desperately needed some personalization.
Stylish Second Chance. We found a simple solution to this style problem: adhering a nautical chart to the drawer fronts. This makeover is easy to do with almost any type of printed paper.
We started by laying out the drawers and measuring their positions from the edges of the chart. Then we turned the chart over, and traced each drawer on the back.
Next, we cut the drawer outlines apart using a utility knife against a straightedge. We left some excess paper around each outline.
We applied spray adhesive to the sections of the chart and the drawer fronts (inset photo). Then we aligned each drawer on its outline, and pressed it in place.
We finished the drawers by trimming the excess paper around the front of each one. Then we sealed the drawers by applying a couple of coats of clear finish.
We also gave the dresser's case a new painted finish. This lighter, brighter look complements the nautical chart’s soft tones.
