The heavy-duty grid form of this antique metal-rod grate grabbed our attention at the local salvage store. We knew it’d be perfect for use as a pot rack.
A pot rack is a good project to create out of a salvaged piece because it doesn’t have to be a specific size, style, or material.
We started the project by spray-painting the hanging hardware to match the grate. This salvaged piece required a couple of heavy-duty hooks screwed into wall studs. After pre-drilling holes, use a tool handle to help you twist and install the hooks.
To secure each of the lower corners, sandwich washers (larger than the opening) on either side of the salvaged grate. Use a spacer to maintain its distance from the wall, and drive in a lag screw.
When the rack is securely mounted on the wall, you’re ready to hang assorted pots, pans, and kitchenware. We used S-hooks to hang these kitchen necessities.
