Exposure to the elements and everyday wear can take their toll on decking. But it’s possible to turn back the clock with just a few steps.
Quick Fixes. The process is actually very simple, and you don’t even need a pressure washer. You’ll just use a deck cleaning solution from the home center, a hose, and a scrub brush.
First, apply the cleaning solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Usually you’ll dampen the deck and then spray or pour on the cleaner. Then scrub the boards with a stiff-bristle brush with a long handle. Rinse off the deck before the grime has a chance to dry.
Let the boards dry for a couple of days, and then coat them with a stain or clear finish designed for decking. Roll the finish on the entire length of each board to prevent lap marks. Then touch up between boards with a brush.
Keep in mind that a damaged deck board may not have to be replaced. Flip it over, and you’ll usually find a good face. Cleaning and staining will blend its color with the surrounding boards.
By rejuvenating the deck that you already have, plus adding some outdoor decor, you can get the outside oasis that you’ve always wanted. The upgraded deck is sure to see a lot of use.
