If your knife collection has outgrown your standard block, we have a solution that can change to fit your needs. This storage system will make even a mismatched group of kitchen knives look good.
Adjustable Storage. Our clever knife blocks are nothing more than vases packed tightly with bamboo skewers. By sliding knives into the spaces between the skewers, these “blocks” will hold any knife you want to store. Continue through the slideshow to see the steps.
It’s important to choose vases with straight sides for this project. You may need to cut the skewers to fit the height of your vase. To do this, start by marking a line where you want to cut them.
Now use tape to wrap the skewers at the cut line (we used electrical tape). The skewers will be easier to cut if you separate them into smaller bundles as shown here.
Use a handsaw to cut each bundle of skewers to length to fit inside the vase. Then arrange the skewers inside the vase.
Once the new knife “blocks” are finished, fill them with your kitchen knives. The best part about this project is that it adapts as your collection grows. Plus, you won’t have to hunt for the correct slot for each knife – just slide it back in place anywhere in the block.
