The unfinished stock cabinets found at home centers offer opportunities for more than just the kitchen. We used some of these cabinets to create a craft station that’s packed with storage potential.
Less Wasted Space. A wall of cabinets can help you make use of any underutilized space. This solution can upgrade your basement, spare bedroom, or bonus room. We’ll show you the elements that make this craft room so clever.
Believe it or not, all of the stock cabinets that we used to create this work station have the same dimensions (12” x 12” x 36”). We joined two pairs of these off-the-shelf cabinets to the wall to provide a spot for an MDF countertop.
We added a work surface to give the room more function. Each section is made from two pieces of MDF that have been glued face-to-face. We even mounted the center portion on shelf brackets, so that it can be moved up and down just by repositioning the brackets in the shelf standards.
These cabinets were unfinished, which meant we had a blank slate to start with. We chose a bright, cheerful green to help spur creativity in this craft space. Then we added cork panels to the upper cabinets to coordinate with the bulletin board in the center of the wall.
As is the case with any space, the details can add up to make a big difference. We added sleek satin nickel hardware to give the cabinets a polished look. When it came to craft storage, baskets and charming mason jars let us show off or conceal supplies as needed.
