The perfect backsplash material can completely transform a boring kitchen into a beautiful one. In this kitchen, for example, a mosaic tile backsplash provided an opportunity to bring in new colors.
Starting Points. The first step is to select and order your tile. The tile can be found in a variety of price points, styles, and color combinations. Get more tips by clicking through the slides.
After we had chosen our tile, we installed a cement backer board on the backsplash. Use a V-notched trowel to apply a thin bed of adhesive on the backer board. Then press the tile sheets into the adhesive, and make sure that each individual tile is firmly embedded in the adhesive.
You’ll probably need to cut and shape individual tiles to fit around obstructions. To cut glass tile, first score it with an ordinary glass cutter from the hardware store. Use a straightedge as a guide.
Once you’ve made the score line, you’re ready to separate the pieces. Use two pairs of pliers to snap the tile along the line.
After you apply grout, the final product of the project is a stunning backsplash that adds a lot of style to the kitchen. The tile used in this kitchen pulls in different colors to tie the whole space together.
