Enclosed cabinets (like the one shown in this "before" photo) are handy for hiding clutter, but they can make a kitchen look too heavy. Lighten the room’s look by removing some of the doors so you can display your dishes in the open cabinets.
Prepped for Success. For this cabinet makeover, we decided to both remove the doors and apply a fresh coat of paint. To do so, we needed to take a few steps to ensure great-looking results.
First, you’ll need to remove all of the doors and hinges from the cabinet boxes. Then use TSP Substitute to thoroughly clean all of the surfaces that you plan to paint.
When you remove the hinges, you’ll be left with unsightly screw holes. Fill these holes, along with any other scratches or dents, with wood filler. Then sand all of the surfaces to ensure a smooth surface for primer.
After you prepare your cabinets, you’re ready to prime and paint them. This inexpensive update will give your entire kitchen a brighter look without breaking your budget.
