A real tree branch decked out with string party lights invokes a warm and friendly feeling wherever it’s displayed. And since you select the style of the lights, the finished “tree” is sure to look great with your decor.
Select Your Supplies. Start by picking out your favorite string light style from a party supply store, a garden center, or an online retailer. You’ll also need a nicely shaped tree branch that’s sturdy enough to support the string lights, a large container, several pounds of sand, and some flexible wire.
Place a branch in a container, and then surround it with sand to support it. Next, mask off the container and the sand by taping paper over it. This will protect the areas that you don’t want to paint.
Spray a coat of paint over the entire branch, and allow it to dry. Then apply a second coat, using a light touch to avoid drips.
Arrange the string lights evenly over the “tree.” When you’re happy with the arrangement, secure the lights to the branches with short lengths of wire.
