Trends in home decor often take off based on what's popular in the fashion industry. This doesn't just apply to high-concept runway looks — everyday clothing can provide decor inspiration, too. Check out this menswear-style office, for instance. Classic patterns and accessories establish an unexpected yet recognizable theme.
Few things can emphasize a menswear theme like pattern. We focused on houndstooth because it has seen a resurgence in popularity in the past few years. You can incorporate the pattern any number of ways — from wrapping fabric around a chair cushion like this to stapling it onto a wall for dramatic effect (as you can see in the previous photo).
Accessories are an essential of both fashion and decor. Not only did we purchase decor items that were designed to reflect our theme, but we also included the real items whenever possible.
One way to include wearable accessories is to "dress" items in the room with them. We had some fun with this idea and actually wrapped several leather belts of varying widths, styles, and colors around a plain drum lampshade.
Think beyond clothes and accessories, too. This clever art display offers a playful homage to the space's inspiration. We mounted posters to thin pieces of hardboard with spray adhesive and then clipped them to clothing hangers.
